Having started out as a single phosphate mining operation some 55 years ago, Foskor has rapidly grown into a reputable and highly profitable producer and processor of phosphate and phosphoric acid. As a result of Foskor’s strategic expansion over the years, its primary business activity extended from basic mining to the current focus on the beneficiation of phosphate rock and the production of phosphoric acid and phosphate-based fertilisers. These end products are sold locally and globally.
Today the Foskor Group comprises of mining and production facilities: Foskor Richards Bay. Located in the KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa - an area known for its huge industrial development and harbour export facilities - Foskor Richards Bay is primarily a producer of phosphoric acid and phosphate based fertilisers, while also distributing lower volumes of sulphuric acid to customers within the South African market.
Foskor Phalaborwa is situated in the Northern Province (Limpopo) of South Africa. The Phalaborwa region is known for its extensive phosphate and copper reserves. The Foskor facilities in this area are focused on the mining and beneficiation of phosphate rock as well as recovering low concentrates of copper minerals. Foskor already commands a respectable percentage, of the traded phosphoric acid market share worldwide. Through additional production, Foskor has positioned itself as an internationally significant phosphoric acid producer with the potential to become the fourth largest internationaltrader of phosphoric acid with a 12 percent share of the world market.
