These awards go to the companies that demonstrate the most success in tackling and improving gender empowerment in their respective sector. Important factors are measurable and accountable leadership that is committed to developing women in the company and the per capita expenditure on training, education and development of women.

• At least 33.33% of overall staff and at least 25% of overall middle and senior management are female.
• Turnover per annum is over R50 million and the company has at least 20 employees.
• The company has been in operation for at least eight years.
• The company has a gender equity policy in place and their CSI initiatives demonstrate the company’s commitment to gender empowerment.

Top Gender Empowered Company: Emergent Companies and SMMEs
This award goes to the company that demonstrates the highest level of gender empowerment. Important factors are measurable and accountable leadership that is committed to developing women in the company and the per capita expenditure on training, education and development of women.

• Turnover per annum is between R3 and R25 million and the company has at least 5 employees.
• The company has been in operation for at least two years.
• The owner is actively involved in the management of the company.
• The company has policies, skills development programmes and/or CSI initiatives that demonstrate their commitment to gender empowerment.

 Top Gender Empowered National, Provincial or Local Government Department
This award goes to the government department that that demonstrates the highest level of gender empowerment. An important factor is measurable and accountable leadership that is committed to developing women in the company.

• At least 33.3% of overall staff and at least 33.3% of management must be female.
• The department met their gender empowerment key performance indicators (KPIs) and targets for service delivery, within budget.
• Vision for the department going forward.

Top Gender Empowered Government Agency or Parastatal
This award goes to the government department that that demonstrates the highest level of gender empowerment. An important factor is measurable and accountable leadership that is committed to developing women in the company.

• At least 33.3% of overall staff and at least 33.3% of management must be female.
• The department met their gender empowerment key performance indicators (KPIs) and targets for service delivery, within budget.
• Vision for the organisation going forward.

Individual Awards

Top Woman Entrepreneur
This award goes to the person who can demonstrate her commitment to gender empowerment both within and outside the company that she started.

• The company must employ more than 5 people and have a turnover that is greater than R5 million per annum.
• The company must show significant year-on-year growth (compared to sector average), underpinned by strong financial performance.
• The company has been in operation for at least two years.

Top Young Woman Entrepreneur
This award goes to the person (aged 40 years or less) who can demonstrate her commitment to gender empowerment both within and outside the company that she started.

• The company must employ more than 5 people and have a turnover that is greater than R5 million per annum.
• The company must show significant year-on-year growth (compared to sector average).
• The company has been in operation for at least two years.

Top Woman Executive
This award goes to the person who works for a large company who can demonstrate her commitment to gender empowerment.

• The executive works for a company that has more than 50 employees, a turnover greater than R50 million per annum and has been in operation for more than eight years.
• The executive has been in a senior management position for at least five years, has a proven track record of achievements and has contributed to a changed perception of women in the workplace.
• The executive has contributed to escalating the level and quality of gender economic empowerment within the workplace.

Top Woman in the Public Sector
This award goes to the person working in the public sector who can demonstrate her commitment to gender empowerment.

• The woman holds a senior management sector
• The woman has worked in the public sector for at least two years.
• Achievements within the workplace to escalate the level and quality of gender economic empowerment.

Top Woman-owned Company
This award goes to the company owner whose manner in which they do business demonstrates their commitment to gender empowerment.

• The company is 100% woman-owned
• The company has more than 10 employees and an annual turnover greater than R35 million.
• At least 33.3% of overall staff and at least 33.3% of management must be female.

In addition, Topco Media will present an honorary award: the Top Women Lifetime Achievement award, to a woman who has dedicated her life to the upliftment of women and gender empowerment.
